Our holiday break will be here soon! We will have an early release day on Dec. 16th at 12:45. No school Dec.19-Jan. 2nd. Our classroom holiday pizza party will be Dec. 16th at 11:00.

I'm Not A Turkey!

Before Thanksgiving break, we took some time to create a turkey and then dress up the turkey as a different animal to hide. The kids then wrote clues about how their turkey was dressed. We read our clues to another 2nd grade class at Hutchison Elementary during a video conference. We had a great time! The kids did a super job with their clues! George Ranch Field Trip

We had a great field trip today to George Ranch! We learned a lot about how they lived on a ranch in Texas a long time ago. We got a little bit wet in the rain, but still had a great time!

The Rockin' Water Cycle!

We have been studying the water cycle in Science. As a review activity we created a claymation video to show the different stages of the cycle. Watch the video, then ask your child to explain the different parts of the water cycle to you!

Pumpkin Lab

We had a great time during our pumpkin lab! We made predictions, measured them, counted their lines, and found out if they would sink or float. We even had time to do the "pumpkin wobble" race!

Parent Conferences

Parent conferences will be held Thursday, October 27th and Friday, October 28th. The students will be released at 11:30 on those two days so we can meet. Please click on the link below to view your conference time. Your child's name is listed in the time slot you are scheduled for. You will see on the list that Friday conference times are full. Writing Workshop

Today during writing workshop, we worked together with our writing partners. The kids had a chance to be the editor for their partner to help them "fix up" their story. Everyone really enjoyed this and did a great job!

Fun With Activexpressions!

We have been using the Activexpressions in our classroom. With the expressions we can vote for the correct answer or text in our short answers. It all shows up on our Promethean Board! Everyone gets to participate and it is so much fun!

Real reading

This week we were working on doing REAL reading, not fake reading. That means we need to think about our reading. To practice that, we used our giant thought bubble to share our thinking. We had so much fun.... And giggled a little every time we saw someone hold up the thought bubble!

Welcome To Second Grade!

Welcome back to school, and welcome to 2nd grade! I know we are going to have a great school year! Please check this blog often to view any important information and view some of our classroom projects.

Summer Break!

Summer break is almost here! We had a GREAT year in first grade! I can't wait to see all of you again in August....IN SECOND GRADE! I will be teaching second grade next year, so some of you may have me for a teacher again. I am excited that I get to move up with such a great group of kids. I can't wait! See you in August!

My Dog Is As Smelly As Dirty Socks!

We read this book this week: My Dog Is As Smelly As Dirty Socks. The book has many similes in it and the author created a picture of each family member in the book using real objects to represent the simile. We REALLY loved this book. This week we worked with Ms. Bristol's 4th grade class to create our own similes and pictures about a family member. This was so much fun! The kids did a great job. My Neighborhood Pool

One beautiful, sunny day in the summer me and my sister asked my mom if we could go to the pool. She said yes. I was 6 when that happened. Then my mom said to get our swim suits on. After that we got in the car. I was filled with joy. I felt like I was going to explode. I had a smile on my face. "Hurry up mom!" I yelled. Finally she started the car. We did not have to buckle up. I was a little bit scared. When I did not notice the car stopped. "We are there!" my sister yelled. My mom put sunscreen on us. I even brought a noodle to help me swim. At last my mom said I could go in the pool. "Yippee!" I yelled. I did a cannonball into the pool. I had a smile on my face.

Recess

When I was 7 I went to recess. My class had to walk because we were on yellow in the cafeteria. Everybody stomped their feet. Then my class paused. We heard a voice saying "My class if you're on green you can go play!" There was a deep dust in the air from all the people running. Caleb met me at the big toy. "How about a game of tag." I said. So we played tag. Caleb was it. Caleb tripped and fell. I said,"Are you OK?" Caleb nodded. He got up and we heard the whistle. We ran to the line. Mrs. Wagner led us to the door. Finally we went in. Everybody took a deep breath and let it out. We each got a drink from the fountain. What happens next.....?

Does anyone have a pindle?

In class, we are currrently reading Frindle by Andrew Clements. In the book, a boy decides to change the name of a pen to "frindle." The name soon catches on and everyone knows what a frindle is. We are LOVING this book! We were all giggling this morning as we read a chapter and then decided to change the name of a pencil to "pindle." The kids are going to try to get all of first grade to use the word pindle! That should be interesting! So.....your child may come home and ask for a pindle to do their homework!

Lazy River

When I got to Schlitterbahn at the lazy river we got in the water and we had to get a plastic boat. "C'mon do we have to stay here?" I said. And I did. So we went in... and a big wave came to us. Swush! Then I felt sick out of my head...Last my mom and dad said "It's time to go!" Then I put my head down...I put a frown on...and I dragged my feet...

My Softball Game

On a warm day in March, it was my ball game. I was jumping up and down. My heart filled with joy. My heart was beating as fast as I could run. When I went to my spot, I was filled with energy. Then a few awesome people went. Then I tried to hit it far. I only hit it to third base. At the end of the game our team lost. A bit of tears dropped. Then I knew we would beat them next time.

On a calm, warm, sunny day in March, we were lining up for recess. I had lots of joy in myself. "Finally." I whispered. I felt like I was gonna explode.

Then we were walking very quietly with hugs and bubbles on in the hallway.

We finally got outside. We all ran wildly to the playground. We almost ran over Mrs. Wagner. "Let's play tag." I said.

Reading!

Is your child reading chapter books at home? I know I have sent home chapter books with many students in their book bags. This is so exciting! The kids have made amazing progress in reading this year. I am so proud of everyone! Please click the link below to view a page that the kids can print out at home to work on summarizing after they read their chapter books. I will be sending this page home in their book bags as well. Summarizing and reflecting on their reading is a very important concept for them to work on. Please help them with this at home.

Thank you so much for your support and help with reading this year. I am so happy that the kids are remembering to bring their book bags back every day for our reading groups! Great Job!

Our Field Trip to The Fort Bend Museum!

We had a beautiful day for our field trip today! I think everyone had a great time. The kids were all GREAT! Thank you so much to the parents that could come and help out! I really appreciate it! If you were unable to come on our trip, I made a short video so you can see a few things we did today!
