Folktales

This week we started a new unit in reading.  We are learning about folktales!  We first learned about 5 different kinds of folktales using the chart below.

**Quiz your child on the characteristics of each type of folktale!**

We read several stories this week and took notes on the characteristics we noticed. Then, we decided what type of folktale they were.

These are a few of the stories we read:

Little Red Riding Hood
Cinderella
The Hare and the Tortoise
The Fox and the Stork
Tug of War
Buffalo Calf Woman
The Legend of the Bluebonnet

**Ask your child what kind of folktale each of these stories represents!**

Next week we will read different versions of folktales and compare them to the folktales we have already learned about.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great winter break.
We started our new year off with our New Year's resolutions...and boy did they do a great job! I was very impressed with their resolutions. This is a group of sweet and thoughtful kids!

The class was also very excited to be back at stations. We have some new technology at stations this week.

We now have iPods at the listen to reading station!

They can listen to the story on the iPod and then complete a comprehension activity.

We also have the iPads at the writing station!

They are making postcards using the Postcards app.

We also have iTouches at the word work station!

They are using some fun apps to practice phonics and language skills.

Reading to someone and Successmaker on the laptops are still favorites during station time!

It was an exciting start to the new year!
